
Malaybalay is a city close to nature. The City of Malaybalay is the capital of the Province of Bukidnon. It is perched in the lush mountains of Bukidnon in the heart of Mindanao. Malaybalay City has an estimated population numbering to 123,672 in 23,522 households. The primary source of income of inhabitants comes mostly on agriculture. Malaybalay City has a dedicated 9,385 hectares for corn, 5,680 hectares for rice, 556.50 hectares for pineapple and 300 hectares for other valued crops.
Malaybalay City has unscathed forests which is of interest to nature lovers. A drive on the highway from Cagayan de Oro to Malaybalay City offers an impressive view of Mt. Kitanglad which towers to 3000 feet. It is a home to the endangered Philippine Monkey-eating Eagle. A coffee plantation of monks called “The Monastery of the Transfiguration” is also an attraction at Malaybalay . At 8:00am of each Sunday, go uphill there for a religious service and buy those monk coffee afterwards.
Every September, Malaybalay is the setting for the annual ‘Kaamulan Festival’, a celebration of unity between the tribal people living in the area. Seven tribal groups are represented and activities include dancing, singing storytelling, serving of local food and wine, and performance of other ethnic rituals.
Malaybalay City is a landlocked area, bounded on the east by the Pantaron Range, on the west by the municipality of Lantapan and Mount Kitanglad, on the north by the municipality of Impasug-ong and on the south by the city of Valencia and municipality of San Fernando. Cagayan de Oro Airport is 91 km away from Malaybalay City.
