Bislig City Description
Bislig City is a coastal city facing the Pacific Ocean. Maximum rainfall in Bislig City is from November to January. There is no dry season and because it is outside the typhoon belt, Bislig City revels in regular fair weather conditions
Bislig City, according to legend, got its name from a forest vine that grew abundantly along the riverbanks of this city. In one of their hunting expeditions near the current Bislig City, a royal couple got carried downstream while crossing a swollen river. All hope of getting out of danger was lost, when they suddenly came across this 1/4-inch thick vine and held onto it, saving their lives. In thanksgiving, the ruler named the place Bislig.
Since then, Bislig City has undergone extensive political, social, and economic changes, from its first perceived inhabitants of Manobos to its present multi-ethnic origin residents.
Bislig City serves as home not only to PICOP Resources, Inc, once the largest paper mill in Asia, but also of the Philippine eagle. It is said that the presence of PICOP in Bislig City catapulted Bislig from a rural town to a city and earned it the moniker “Paper Capital of the Philippines”. Now, development of agricultural, aqua marine, forestry, and processing industries has given Bislig City the other name “Booming City by the Bay”.
Bislig City is constructing a seaport to provide wider options for commuters. Nowadays, only private planes occasionally ply Bislig City’s concrete runway commercial airport.
Bislig City Attraction
Bislig City has its local mini-version of Niagara Falls in Tinuy-an Falls. Once appearing in the International Travel Magazine, Tinuy-an Falls boasts of clear waters that turn starch white as it plunges down a 3-level wall, 55 meters high in total, and turn calm at the basin bottom.
In Bislig City is a 700-meter jetty that PICOP Inc. developed into a resort complete with play and picnic grounds and a floating cottage. At the end of the jetty is Danipas Beach which vacationists frequent.
A 45-minute boat ride from the coast Barangay Mangagoy, Bislig City is Hagonoy Island. Tread its white, sandy shore and circumnavigate this island in just 10 minutes.
Other unique destinations in Bislig City are Barcelona Beach which has black shorelines, Hercules Wall with its 2 to 3-meter wide gap between high rock walls, and San Isidro and Km.3 caves.
